Sephora & San Fran - Of Course It's Green!

Image: courtesy of Sephora, San Francisco, via vmsd Pulse
According to a recent article in vmsd Pulse, Sephora's Stonestown Galleria store is seeking gold or platinum LEED certification. This is the first time Sephora is seeking certification and plans are in the works for more LEED certified stores. Who knew Sephora has been making green choices for years - FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified wood flooring, LED lighting...? Good to know.

"According to Wendy Hawkins, Sephora’s store planning and design manager, this store uses 15 percent less energy; houses Energy Star-compliant equipment and appliances; and has high-efficiency plumbing fixtures that reduced the retailer’s water usage by more than 40 percent. The retailer also recycled all materials from the fixture install, including the protective packaging used during shipping." And they are doing it all, while keeping their signature black and white brand image.

Now if they can make sure that all their product offerings are equally sustainable they will really be doing something special;)

I was shocked while reading this post about Sephora using try to save on pluming and energy. I'm sure there are many major companies that we never would have thought about that are using eco friendly techniques. Even though Sephora does not supply all green products, it is a good to know they are helping out in the green movement on some level.

Very surprising to hear this about Sephora. I am very impressed! I know Sephora carries several brands who make organic/green products, but I never heard about Sephora itself as a company being green. I hope to hear more on this issue in the future because I shop at Sephora very often and always enjoy companies who go the extra mile to be sustainable.

This post was a complete shock to me. I never would have guessed that Sephora was going green aside from carrying a few brands who make organic products. I think it's great that Sephora is becoming eco friendly by improving their plumbing system and using LED lights. I'm glad to know that a lot of the places I go to shop regularly are going green. It makes me feel better about the selection of stores I use.

I'm impressed that Sephora is taking this step to opening an LEED certified store. Like you said, I wish they would take the extra step and look into making all of their products at least partially sustainable. It seems so easy for companies to switch over and start making greener choices. Whether it be in packaging or in the actual product itself such as a lotion there are a lot of "green" options. If Sephora did this they would be setting a standard in the beauty industry, and others would follow.

I think companies that are working towards being "greener" should definitely make it more public. Especially big, well-known companies like Sephora. A store like that announcing that they are conserving energy and seeking LEED certification could really help get the message out there that people everywhere really need to start conserving energy and whatnot. Big companies would be a huge influence in society, but in a better way than they are now.

I think this is a good idea on Sephora's part. They already have the people who care about getting good beauty products, and taking a step towards making their stores green is a step towards getting customers who care about green beauty products. If they can incorporate more eco-friendly cosmetics in to their stores, they will be set.

It was a nice surprise to hear that another big name is taking the plunge and going green. Good for them! I can only imagine that they do plan to provide more eco friendly products to customers; it's only a matter of time. I wonder how difficult it is to source eco friendly products on such a large scale? I can't imagine that it would be too easy to find the assortment of products that they currently offer in the quantities that they need to run their business.

First, I'm going to say that I am proud of Sephora for making the effort to be green. I'm not a big fan of the company, but they are a major player in the cosmetics industry, so having their name on the green bandwagon is a gateway for many other leading companies to go green too.

I'm glad Sephora is attempting to be more green. However, they have to make more moves in order to convince me that they're striving to be eco-friendly. For example, when you order a giftcard from Sephora, not only is it plastic - non disposable. But it comes in a giant box filled with tissue, which they then put in another box and wrap. Nice looking? yes. Eco-friendly? No.

It's great that Sephora is trying to go green. Such a large and well-known store can help to set the stage for other companies to try this as well. It's wonderful they are trying to save on energy, but I wonder how many eco-friendly products they stock in the store. I don't mean that you have to be entirely 100% green in order to make any impact, but I feel if they want to be leaders in the shift to a more eco-friendly environment, they should adapt in all ways possible including stocking more eco-friendly products.

It makes me appreciate stores more when they do all they can to go green, even if not all of their products are green. I think its great that Sephora does things such as keeping their flooring and lighting green. I am very impressed.

I absolutley love Sephora and it's products. And after hearing about their changes to becoming ia more "green" store, i love them even more. I think it's important that companies take being eco-friendly to the next level. Selling eco-friendly products is one thing, but becoming eco-friendly as a company is a whole other venture.

I never had any idea that Sephora was Green. Sephora maintains a chic and sophisticated look while saving money and the environment at the same time. Hopefully Sephora starts a trend and others follow in its footsteps and go green as well.
