Go ahead, admit it. Your cell phone is your constant companion and that makes it your most visible and consistent fashion accessory. The make, style and color says a lot about you and your personal style. Now you can make a truly green statement 24/7 with the new Motorola Moto W233 Renew.
According to the Motorola website, the Renew is the first carbon free cell phone to hit the market.Through a partnership with Carbonfund.org, Motorola is offsetting the energy used to produce, distribute and operate the phone through investments in renewable energy sources and reforestation. Through each stage of the phone's life cycle: Design & Manufacturing, Batteries, Energy Efficiency, Packaging and Recycling, Motorola has made an effort to reduce environmental harm. Examples include the use of 100% recyclable plastics with a percentage coming from recycled water bottles, a 22% reduction in package size produced with 100% post consumer recycled paper, a postage paid envelope to recycle the phone the customer is replacing and a consumer-friendly take back program at the end of the life of the phone.
You can purchase the phone directly through Motorola or the T-Mobile store. Now you can sport your Green every day. Don't you just love it when you can be green and fashionable at the same time?

I really appreciate the green efforts that Motorola is making, but I am not sure how successful this phone will be. The reason I think this is because this phone seems to be missing some of the features that the "it" phones have today. For example, there isn't a key pad or email service on the Moto W233 Renew. I just don't think people are going to give up the convenience features on their phones for a green phone. I personally would buy it because I don't need my email sent to my phone or a touch screen, but those are features that some people want/need on their phones.
But who knows, I could be completely wrong and this phone could be a huge trend.
I completely agree with the post above. I think that a green phone is a really great idea. But I think for it to be successful it has to have more applications that make certain phones today so popular. I think that Motorola really has a great idea, but they just need to do more research into getting certain functions that is the "norm" for phones these days.
I think the Moto W233 Renew is a giant step in the right direction. I agree with previous posts that not having the extravagant features that most phones today have will hurt the initial reaction to the phone, however, it's a place to start. I can only hope that other cell phone companies will take notice, if not in making a eco-friendly phone, then maybe with just the idea of 100% post consumer recycled paper for packaging. Every little bit makes a difference.
This phone is a great concept, and has hopefully been a success for Motorola so far. A phone with a green solution definitely targets consumers to purchase things that are more environmentally friendly. Although it is tough to say if todays consumer would give up the touch screen, 60000 applications, email, and camera all in one for an eco phone that takes you back to the basics. Hopefully from this creation other companies will take notice and decide to make their products more eco friendly, by using recycled plastic, or post consumed recycled packaging. Any small step to informing consumers about recycling is a move in the right direction for a greener future and its nice to see Motorola has taken initiative.
Along with everyone else I think this is a very innovative design however it wouldn’t be a phone I would purchase. I think many of us are extremely intrigued by the numerous applications on the newly developed phones today, such as the iphone, sidekick, etc. Maybe if Apple somehow incorporated this idea to a newly updated iphone serious it would be a bigger success. Also, does something “ going green” have to be “green?”
It is great to see a cell phone company trying to come up with a green cell phone. Although, I feel it will be very difficult to make this phone popular to consumers. The minimal features that the phone has will not meet up to consumer's needs in today's society. I feel as though this phone would have been a better idea about 4 years ago when technology was not so far ahead as it is today.
Though I like the idea of a green cell phone, I feel Motorola would need to work on something that would include more features than the W233.
I agree with everyone above that the general American public probably wouldn't switch from their Blackberry/iPhone to this phone with 1990s features. However, I personally hate the 24/7 world connection offered from those phones and I would buy this phone for sure - except I don't think that my phone company uses Motorola phones.
One good thing about this is that if this company is capable of this that means that other companies are too and might be encouraged to investigate it. So maybe there is potential for a green Blackberry that the masses would be interested in.
Although the Moto W233 Renew is a great idea, I also agree that many people will not give up their iPhone applications and Blackberries for a phone with minimal features. I do think that it's a great step towards the future and that in time phone companies will find ways to create green technology that is up to speed with the current technology, such as the iPhone. I think that the public will be more ready to purchase a "green" phone if it embodies more features they use day in and day out.
I know so many people that are addicted to their iPhones or Blackberries and would not give them up for green efforts as of now. Motorola is thinking ahead and is making strides in the green effort, but I think before most people will buy the phone there need to be more applications and options offered. It's sad to think that people are so into their technology that they aren't willing to give up a little to get so much more back for the environment.
