Crowdsourcing to get green

Crowdsourcing is a great way to get input and collaboration on all sorts of things from design, user experience and sustainability from all sorts of people world wide. On October 10, 2010 Springwise newsletter reported on 2 crowdsourcing solutions for those looking for sustainable ideas - Global Forum and Myoo Create.

Global Forum discussed in Springwise on June 25, 2010. According to the site post, Global Forum is a Stokholm based company that matches supply and demand for sustainable solutions. Myoo Create focuses on putting people together to solve social and environmental challenges.

Now if they could just clean and organize my closet and get my cast offs to the Goodwill!

Relating crowd-sourcing to our closets makes me think of the companies that come and redo closets and organize them. I love going to ikea and seeing the different closet options and wardrobes. Searching for apartments in Philly specifically has forced me to turn to wardrobes in my rooms because finding a closet... decent size at least... is almost impossible. My new apartments closet is a triangle shape in the corner of the room, WHO DOES THAT? Any way I could would love to work for one of those companies considering my mother and I redid my whole closet at home floor to ceiling with shelves and drawers.

I think it is interesting that Krista brought up Ikea. My friend recently had an interview at Ikea and they gave out one problem to multiple people interviewing at the same time to solve together. Just like Myoo. It wasn't an eco-friendly task but it is the same idea of getting groups of people together who have the same goal, to solve the issue at hand with the different thoughts and ideas of others. I feel like this would be hard for me to do since I am so opinionated but if it were for a good cause like Myoo does, I feel the answer would be more black and white because everyone has the environment's best interest in mind and not their own.

I think crowd-sourcing is a good idea, especially in the case of environmental problem solving. First of all, the company doesn't have to use any ideas that they don't think are good, and they also get a wider perspective and group of ideas to choose from.
And closets are a big problem for everyone, especially city-dwellers. I've been very lucky so far, but it really is annoying not being able to store your clothes properly. Also commenting on what Alexandra said, Ikea uses all kinds of group and stress interview techniques to recruit employees. It's an interesting approach and there certainly are benefits and drawbacks, but since the decision is ultimately left to the employer, I think it's pretty safe.

It is so easy to connect with people through social platforms these days! I think that this is a great way to use the internet. By collaborating with so many people who specialize in a field, ideas can be deeply developed and input can easily be given to improve an existing idea. A great way to come up with sustainable innovations.

Global Forum and Myoo Create are using technology in a very innovative way by crowdsourcing for sustainable solutions. Using the internet allows people from all over the world to collaborate on solving a problem, meaning there will be different points of view and more effective solutions. I think this is an awesome way to bring together people who really care about the environment.

As we're learning, the best ideas are collaborated. It's always great to have a fresh perspective on something, which is why peer review is so valuable. There is always room for a second or third or fourth opinion. What's sad to me is that there are so many people working and contributing to come up with new ideas and keep the world as sustainable as possible, and yet there is a good percentage of the world who still don't recycle....

The mass use of social media networks in today's society has created an amazing platform for crowdsourcing. Companies have a large access to the public and customers. Now they can directly ask the users on how they think what they produce or sell can be more green. Crowdsourcing with the use of twitter and facebook is the way of the future.

Collaboration for public good is definitely the effective way to bring good ideas into reality. The way they collect environmental ideas remind me of how people post questions about computer technical problems in the forum and there are many people follow the string and try to solve the problem altogether. Crowd-sourcing is getting ideas freely so we can improve better, unlike outsourcing with possibly cost labor for the same result.

Crowdsourcing is definitely an interesting and great way to come up with new ideas. Collaboration from multiple people will provide better solutions to problems particularly for the environment. With input from groups of people, there will be more ideas that can be combined to find the best answer. I love the contests on websites such as Myoo because people are more likely to get involved in something that can not only benefit others but also themselves.

I think in order to make changes in our society we need a large group of supporters with relative and new ideas. By making certain views public, one person can be the start to creating various groups of innovators to help create a healthy environment. Through Crowdsourcing one idea can branch into a world of new ones, which can only help our society, as well as our own closets.

I think the idea of matching supply and demand is a great idea. I think there are so many people developing eco-friendly solutions for problems around the world every day, but they have no idea how to actually implement their ideas or where to implement their ideas to make them most successful. I think that finding a solution to this problem will eventually lead to many green initiatives because all people need is a little help and a great idea to really get the ball roliing!

Crowd-sourcing sounds like a really great way to get ideas, fast and inexpensively. I think it is great when talking about sustainability too. Sourcing for a better way of living. I am sure that this will be used more often through social networking very soon in the future.

I think crowd sourcing is a great way to get ideas off the ground. The website kickstarter does the same thing by pooling ordinary peoples ideas and having these ideas voted on by other users. This voting is then taken to the next level by people supporting the popular ideas with money. Although this isn't a green based website, it does help anyone with a good idea develope their thoughts, raise money and eventually form a patent. I recently recognized this website when I read an article about the record amount of money raised, $941,648 from 13,511 backers in just 30 days, due to the idea of combining a watch with an ipod nano forming a nano watch kit. I thought this idea was brilliant and clearly an extremely sucessful use of crowd sourcing.
