Party Time

Summertime is party time and I came across a great idea on 6abc.com for creating a great green themed party on a budget. Now the trick is to keep an open mind about the theme. I would first suggest looking through your own "stuff" to see if you can pull together the entire party from what you already have. Who knows what you have stored away in the dark recesses of your closet. If you are like me you just might have all the fixin's for a luau or a Mexican fiesta - party favors included.

The story on 6abc.com suggests a trip to your local thrift shop. Again with an open mind to theme, peruse the shop.  According to the article, Jo Greenawalt and co-workers found the makings of an "under the Sea" party using items from their thrift shop, Impact Thrift Store in Montgomeryville. They suggest buying what  you need for the party and sending what you don't want back to the thrift shop when you are done.

So whether you buy from the store, use your own stuff, or a combination of both. You can save green, be green and throw a great summer party. I'm going to test this out this weekend at our annual crab fest;)

Reusing for parties is on the top ten list of things I do best. The past few months I have been social chair for my sorority and have had not only had to help decorate but also help my friends dress up for the theme. My favorite theme this term has been, "What not to Wear" social. Although this isn't a prime example of finding good decorations it was super easy for everyone to go through their closets and find that sweater that their great aunt gave to them for Christmas or some they bought years ago when they were having a bad day. One girl even found a crazy rainbow skirt that her mom owned. All of these old clothes made for a free easy outfit!
