Summer is on the way and your vacation is just around the corner. Time to consider your carry all options. Whether you choose to laze on the beach, hike in the mountains, picnic in the park or shop the high street you are going to need a worthy tote - all weather, packable, reusable and sustainable for an affordable price.
You say: "Impossible."
I say: "Not only possible but readily available."
Check out the Recycled Street Banner Bags at Poketo! All the way from Korea, these bags are made from recycle street banners in Seoul. Produced by a South Korean non-profit, eco-friendly shop that specializes in one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted items generally made from castoffs. These re-purposed banners are whipped into one of a kind colorful, reusable, weather ready totes available at a very affordable price.
While not 100% eco, the re-purposing of materials and use of local production are good choices and off-set the transportation from Korea to you to some degree.

I love re-purposing! I think that re-purposing really adds a little something to an object that would just be ordinary. Always a nice conversation piece and also a good way to influence others green contributions. These totes are functional and fun. Because they are made from banners they are weather proof and fade resistant... Hellooo beach tote! I bet the sand can be shaken right out, and poolside there is no worries about chlorine bleaching! I also searched through the rest of the website and enjoyed a lot of their products. Great website!
These are very cute! I like the idea that you can order one and you will not know what you are going to get and you know that no one else will have what you have.
This would be a great tote to go to class with. It seems like it is a good size for a notebook and a few necessities.
It is so wonderful to hear about "green" practices taking place in other countries. It really gives me hope that some day the entire world can come together and save our environment. The totes are actually really cute and funky. At first I thought they sounded kind of dull but after visiting the website I was proven wrong. The colors are bold and fresh for Summer which is always something I look for. I really wish I could stuff this bag with a towel and hit up the beach scene!
I am always looking for new totes, whether it is to carry to class, the beach, or for an overnight. I love the fact that these are fun and eco-friendly. It is adorable and looks very sturdy so I can carry books in it to class. Or if I have a day at the beach I can throw all my beach essentials in it and not worry about it breaking. Hopefully, more totes made in the US will begin to make similar products.
These bags are adorable! Not to mention cheap! Only $19, and they are definitely durable if they are made from exterior banners, so they are worth much more. Not only are they re-purposed, but each bag is one-of-a-kind and that extends the value even further. So often totes have fabrications that do not suit varied locations, but this banner fabric is appropriate for numberous situations and will also protect the items inside.
It seems like a very smart choice because its is eco-friendly, durable, practical, and super cute all rolled into one! (All at such a great price point. what a pleasant suprise!)
I have a bag that has a similar concept. The messenger bag that I bring to class with me everyday is made from recycled rice bags. Again it is not 100% eco-friendly, but it is a great way to re-purpose the materials so that they do not get wasted. Each bag is unique since they come from different sources. Mine has large fish on the front of it. I would assume that the banner totes would be just as unique since they would each be from a different part of the banner.
At first the idea of a bag made out of street banners did not seem too aesthetically pleasing, so I was surprised at how cute these bags were. Bags like this are great because they can be used for a number of purposes, as mentioned already: school, beach etc. I'm sure that since these were once street banners they are already water resistant which is great for a bag. Also the fact that each one is unique is an extra bonus. It makes me wonder what other unexpected materials totes can be made out of.
I love the concept of up-cycling. It adds an entire new dimension to design that just recycling does not acknowledge. The ability to add value to material that typically would be viewed as garbage is inspiring. It encourages the consumer to look outside of the box and to recognize the potential in objects instead of the limitations. It might even stir the urge to create within consumers and therefore support the craft/handmade movement. I find this area of design to be an optimistic approach toward sustainability by constantly seeking treasure out of trash.
This is great! I love the idea of recycling old products and making them into something creative and new. Not only does it reduce waste, but also produces something very unique. While I interned abroad in Milan I had a Korean roommate from Seoul. She always carried re-usable bags and totes and said that most of her friends and relatives did as well. This is great to hear that everyone is trying to do their part in being eco-friendly and that it's not just a trend here in the United States.
Reusing old banners to create bags is a great idea, but all the way from Seoul is a long way to travel for a recycled item. You can buy these same items locally from Philadelphia. Old banners from around the city have been created into sturdy, new tote bags. http://www.uwishunu.com/2009/12/banner-bags-from-pafa-open-house/
Personally, I like the idea of recycling old items into new bags that are truly one of a kind. The limited edition bags seem like a great way to personalize an outfit and support local businesses.
I love how these totes come in different colors and patterns. Sometimes with green products you have to sacrifice certain aesthetic qualities of a garment or accessory. I also like how they are big enough to fit everything you need to go in there but still looks like it is comfortable to carry around. For the price, I just might get one.
I love the look of these totes! and the message behind them regarding recycling is great. It gives each one individual character and unique qualities, and even some imperfections that I personally love. After ready about the totes, I immediately remembered recycled tote bags sold at one of my co-ops. They are called sea bags and they are made from recycled sails from retired boats! I bought one for my mother for her birthday and she loved it! Here is the website for the bags: http://www.seabags.com/
if you like the street banner bags I would definitely recommend looking at the seabags too!
I adore these bags! They are so colorful and interesting, not to mention one of a kind. My best friend is currently co-oping in a robotics lab near Seoul and I cannot wait to order one for her.
I love these totes!! they are so cute and re-purposing is always a good thing in my book. These totes are not only completely functional but they also hip and fun. I enjoy the fact that they are weatherproof and very sturdy bags, especially since I tend to get obsessed with a bag after I purchase it, and wear it almost every day. I would definitely purchase one of these totes to use as a school bag, beach bag or just casual every day bag because it is a really good size. I also had the chance to look through the rest of the Poketo! website and all of their products are really cool and very unique.
I was happily surprised by the aesthetics of these bags! Upcycling is a great concept and should be applied to more "waste" items. People throw away material with great potential all the time. Products like these bags can remind and inspire us to be more mindful of what we chose to throw away.
These bags are really cute. I like how there are so many different varieties due to the placement of the banners. Picking out a bag that you like is almost like customization! It's always interesting to have a fashion product that used to be something else. To have a bag that used to be a street banner in South Korea is pretty cool. I also looked around on the rest of the website. Very original brand with cool items at reasonable prices. I really like all of the notebooks and planners especially.
These bags are so cute! They are really interesting and one of a kind. Its great to see unique pieces that are green!
