One of my favorite eco-friendly shoe brands is Melissa Plastic Dreams. Aside from their earth-friendly philosophy, their shoes are like little works of art. All Melissa shoes are made of plastic, which may sound uncomfortable and instantly make your feet sweat. Personally, I can attest to how amazing they are. The plastic is scented and lined with this super-comfortable padding at the bottom. The process by which the shoes are created is nearly sustainable. Almost all materials used are recycled, and then because the shoe is made of plastic, it can easily be disassembled and recycled again. As a global brand originating from Brazil, Melissa Plastic Dreams has a greater outlook than many domestic brands on the sustainability epidemic.

Jumbu's shoes look incredibly comfortable. The design of the sole looks as if it is forgiving and shock absorbing, while still being stylish and trendy. I am a dancer and it is always difficult to find fashionable shoes that support my body and over-worked feet. I tend to have a lot of discomfort in flat shoes with no cushion, so these offer a trendy and green option for me. I like how they have incorporated the eyelet-type cut outs in some of their styles as that is a trend in footwear at the moment. It shows that this company is environmentally conscious and trend-influenced. That is a great combination to look into, and I am definitely more inclined to research green footwear after seeing these options.

I am loving the Corso Como "Felony" sandal. I am a bit of a shoe addict and I really like the fact that they are eco-friendly. When I think of Green shoes I think of styles like those of Jumbu. Practical and comfortable I am sure, but I would not wear them. In contrast Corso Como offers cute, wearable footwear. I am also drawn to this company because it is the name of a street that I frequented in Milan which I tend to associate with quality products. Now that I see stylish shoes can, in fact, be eco-friendly and desirable at the same time I'd also like them to be friendly to my wallet. I know we can't have it all, but wouldn't it be nice?

The first shoe company that I had heard of using recycled materials was Simple Shoes. This company makes cute sneakers and sandals from recyclable waste like car tires and paper. I had also heard of the Nike Trash Talk shoe made from worn out sneakers. After looking further into this I found that Nike has initiated its Reuse-a-Shoe movement (http://www.nikereuseashoe.com/) The website is very interactive and informative describing the process of shoe deconstruction and how it is used in sport surfaces and Nike products. It also informs consumers on how to recycle their old shoes through the mail or drop off locations near them. I was very excited to see how much progress Nike had made in developing its efforts toward environmental stewardship since I had last investigated.

Last year I did a project on the ethical shoe label Beyond Skin. They use different recycled materials in their footwear and source closed to their Spanish factories to limit shipping. They even post information about their components right on their website where consumers can find it. Read more here: http://www.beyondskin.co.uk/shop_content.php?coID=31

Whenever I think of eco-friendly footwear, stylish or trendy shoes don't usually come to mind. I was proven wrong when looking at the Corso Como shoes. These shoes are cute and fashionable in addition to being environmentally friendly. However they are definitely not in my price range and I would not be willing to pay what they are selling for. I would like to find footwear that is eco-friendly but at a lower price.

I love shoes and the look and feel of the shoe is very important to me. Honestly, I was surprised to see how cute Zappos' Corso Como shoe collection was. There were a couple shoes in that collection that I thought were super cute. First off, the Corso Como Gianna shoe; the suede ankle boot with the bow. I love bow accents on everything, the fact that those are a great going out shoe, have a bow, and are eco friendly is fabulous. The second shoe I liked was the Corso Como Santorini sandal. It is a great everyday sandal that comes in various colors to spice up your summer look. This collection shows that eco friendly shoes can be both friendly to the environment and fashionable.

Shoes are something else we add to our everyday wardrobe, and I feel like we don't think of shoes as being eco-friendly. I do own a couple of pairs of Melissa shoes, the same brand Alex' Fishoff mentioned, and they really are fashionable and comfortable. Being plastic, they also look like nothing you might have in your shoe collection.

When I think of shoes that are good for the environment, I think of shoes that my mother would wear. They look earthy and "comfortable." I took a look at the Jambu's shoes and the ones by J-41 and they fit this stereotypical style. However, when I shopped the Corso Como collection, I was surprised how much I like their shoes. I do have to admit that while I cannot afford the shoes I really want, I am a bit of a shoe snob. Some of the shoes from Corso Como would completely fit into my wardrobe and help the environment too.

Like Rachel, I also did a project on the eco-friendly vegan shoe company Beyond Skin. They make very stylish shoes for everyday wear and also Bridal. I think it is great that they have gone into the bridal industry. I don't see many every day eco-friendly shoes let alone bridal eco-friendly shoes! Beyond Skin's shoes remind me of the Corso Como shoes. They are very current and do not look like they are made any differently than a typical shoe.

If we can have eco-friendly clothes, then why not shoes! I have been on a sandals hunt for the past month, but have been very unsuccessful. I am searching for that cute, comfortable shoe with a quality that is worth the price point. I have a lot of trouble finding comfortable shoes because of hereditary feet issues. I want to be able to wear the newest trends, but can not suffer the painful consequences. The Corso Como shoes are absolutely adorable, look relatively comfortable and have an environmentally conscience brand image. I would be willing to pay more for their shoes because of all the benefits that would come from it. I have already passed the link on to my mother and sister!!!

I have never really thought to consider buying eco-friendly shoes. When I think of green shoes, i tend to think of unattractive, and a typical hemp sandal. The shoes featured on zappos proved me wrong. Much of them looked comfortable and stylish, you wouldn't think from looking at them that they were 'green'. Many people have this idea that if something is made eco-friendly it is not stylish, that is not always the case. I am definitely a shoe lover and now that I have seen cute eco-friendly shoe companies, I will pay more attention to shoes made green.

I'm not a big online shopper. In fact I think the only thing I've ever bought online was a textbook. That being said, I think that with items such as Jambu's and Corso Como shoes, which are very unique and eco-friendly, I would be more inclined to buy via the internet, seeing as that is the only way to purchase them is online. I think the fact that the packaging is recyclable also adds to the whole eco-friendly nature of the product. Most importantly, the shoes look comfortable on the website. That combined with the fact that the shoes are eco-friendly and the great idea of imprinting a road map on the sole of the shoe is a great way to capture the customer's interest while at the same time projecting the company's philosophies.

I agree with Gabrielle, when I think of eco-friendly shoes I think of unattractive sandals. These shoes are really cute and I would definitely buy them!

I like the fact that Corso Como uses recycled material for their boxes and tissue paper. One thing that I have noticed when it comes to sustainability in the shoe industry is the amount of empty shoe boxes that I always have laying around. It would be great if companies offered some kind of incentive for consumers to reuse shoe boxes. Companies could offer a small discount or rebate for when consumers bring boxes back for reuse by the vendor. My mom reuses old shoe boxes when shipping things to my sister and I in the mail. I am sure that a lot of people have habits like these, however I also am sure that many people simply throw shoe boxes out. As a college student with out ample closet space to store shoes in their boxes, the only real purpose that a shoe box serves for me is a way to transport the shoe from the store to my apartment safely. It would be great if shoe boxes could have a longer life time then just that one trip.

It's great that eco-friendly brands are becoming more common in the marketplace. The fact that Corso Como shoes are sold at many major retailers is a great step forward in environmentally friendly fashion. I think that if eco-friendly options are more present and available to the general public, more shoppers will be willing to purchase these brands. Today, with online shopping and advanced technology, shopping is all about convenience. People don't want to search for tiny unknown brands just to be eco-friendly. The fact that these shoes are available at Zappos, Piperlime and Nordstom is a great step in helping shoppers to be environmentally friendly.

It is encouraging to hear that eco-friendly shoe vendors have been bought by major online shoe stores such as shoes.com and zappos. I noticed that neither website seems to stress the importance of these brands being socially responsible, beyond in the text in the "about the brand" sections. I wonder if this characteristic was emphasized more visually whether the brands would attract more consumer interest.

Sharing a part of your sales to charity is a good advocate. The customers will be aware and happy to know how they were able to help people with the pair of shoes they bought.

Emergency medical alert systems are useful for disabled persons, living alone people, who may need help in an emergency. These alert systems consist of a radio transmitter; a base unit with a console. When an emergency occurs the user presses the button on the medical alert unit which then sends a signal to a call center.I find a website for the Best Shoes for Sweaty Feet.
