Asos Green Lounge

UK online fashion retailer Asos launched an eco-driven section on their website on February 19th. Asos features the latest trends and celebrity looks - a bit more sophisticated and mature Forever 21.It is one of my favorite sources for that bit of something different. Sign up for their email newsletter and enjoy a real treat. They sell internationally so don't fret if you don't live in the UK.

According to their blog: "...THE GREEN ROOM will fill you in on all the latest stories from the real people behind your favourite finds on ASOS.com. We'll be asking the brands who sell in THE GREEN ROOM and anyone who plays a key roll in bringing you the latest fashion that support people and the planet.

SOCIAL & ENVIRONMENTALLY AWARE BRANDS – features amazing labels that promote people and planet, from Swedish Hasbeens much-feted ecologically prepared, natural grain leather footwear to the hotly anticipated Emma Watson for People Tree collaboration.

ASOS.COM OWN LABEL – We launched our first Fairtrade cotton jersey pieces back in December, here you'll find an ever increasing number of own brand creations designed inhouse by our super designers and suppliers - there will be some basics but well be dropping a few styles with a twist on site - search 'FAIRTRADE' onsite now - don't miss out! (check out the fab Chrissie Abbott designed tee). The Fairtrade status of these products ensures that the cotton farmers have been paid a fair price for their crop. Each farming community also receives a social premium that they invest in social projects such as building schools and hospitals (see one of our next blogs for commentary directly from the Fairtrade Foundation)

BEAUTY– a range of products that pamper without using any ingredients that are damaging to the environment - and of course your skin! Includes well-known brands such as Cowshed, This Works and Neal’s Yard. Lush!"

Ahh another reason to practice retail therapy online and feel good about your choices.

--till next week Restore, Recycle, Refresh & Renew.

I am obsessed with ASOS and order things at least 2x a month. So funny that you blogged about this because I was on ASOS the other day and saw the new updates. I think it's awesome that they are giving so much attention to 'social & environmentally aware brands'
Very cool. I'd love to see other companies doing the same.

I love ASOS! It is my favorite online shop. I love that I can find whatever I am looking for, from inexpensive basics to designer pieces. It's also great that they have so many departments like their outlet store. While I have purchased a lot from here I have not gotten anything from their own fairtrade line. I think that it is great that they have added this to their vast collection. I will definitely need to get something soon!

I often shop online at a variety of different websites, ASOS happens to be one of them. They have cute clothes at decent prices. The fact that they added the Green Room with environmentally friendly yet fashionable clothing is amazing. ASOS' Green Room is able to maintain a reasonable price point with shirts as low as $27.35 that are fashionable and organic. The Green Room allows users to easily access the clothes, beauty products, and accessories that are environmentally friendly. Hopefully more websites both in the UK and US are inspired by ASOS' idea and begin to carry more eco-friendly labels.

It is also very interesting to learn that ASOS' started their own fairtrade line. It really shows how devoted they are to preserving the environment and making their consumers more aware of the issue at hand and how important it is to buy clothes that are more friendly to the environment.

I look forward to seeing how ASOS' Green Room and Fairtrade line progress and influence other brands.

I think that a company is really work toward green design not only when they create a green line, but when they take the time to correctly present and support it. Any company can say they are creating a "green" line, but there is a whole separate level when a company is creating a green collection to be responsible, as opposed to just jumping on the green band wagon. When a company is responsible and genuine enough to go into detail and explain their collection, those are the brands you want to stand behind. Because they are far less likely to cut corners, unlike those just hoping on the band wagon.
