This week I wanted to focus on shopping local and green by featuring a rockin' Philly shoe store, Bus Stop and one of their green offerings, Terra Plana.
London-born owner Elena Brennan opened Bus Stop to feature fun and funky shoes for the Philly shoe addict. Featuring a variety of hard-to-find designers and selections from such far away places at Lima and Rio, Bus Stop is always a delight. The merchandise mix offers a varied selection of product in a broad (many brands) and shallow (few styles and sizes) plan so you won't be wearing the same shoes as your friends shopping at the mall.
Just in for Winter, Bus Stop features new boots from Terra Plana with accents from repurposed Pakistani quilts and low-impact materials. In the About section of their website, Terra Plana describes their company as "Inspired by ecological survival, TERRA PLANA believes in a variety of non-generic products supporting ideas of sustainability: lightness, anatomic design, disassembly and durability." They offer a wide selection of footwear and accessories for men, women and kids. Terra Plana has one US store in NYC: Terra Plana , 254 Elizabeth Street, New York NY 10012, 1 212 274 9000, 254elizabethst@terraplana.com. It is a great little shop with a wonderful selection. I strongly suggest a visit when you are in the area.
Stay local. Stay green. Buy green, Be green. Bus Stop is located at 750 South 4th Street in Fabric Row. Holiday Hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday 11AM-6PM, Friday till 7PM and Sunday 12PM-5PM.

You don't have to go far to find something unique and new. Shopping at your local boutiques you can find some great finds. Just by staying in your area and shopping at your local stores you are not only sparing fumes from traveling, but you are also supporting your local economy!
This sounds awesome, I cant wait to check it out. I am always in search for different and funky shoes- only problem, I wear a size ten. Its not very easy to find unique or vintage shoes big enough to fit these clown feet. Ive never really checked out the city well enough to know of shops that hold these little secrets, but this is definitely going to be a stop on my list!
This place sounds fantastic. I am in desperate need of some new boots, too. If I can buy some shoes that are eco-friendly, that would just be an added bonus. Also, with the holidays coming up, I can always buy some shoes for my sister as a gift.
This store sounds really interesting. i never would have thought to stop in a store like this if i had seen while walking down the street. After poking around their website, however, I may have to make a trip down there just to check it out. And the eco-friendliness of it will make me feel less guilty for splurging.
Bus Stop sounds and looks like a really cool shop to stop into and make a few purchases. Now that I think about I feel as if I might have passed it on one of many shoe shopping journeys. Also the fact that they carry Terra Plana shoes does not make me feel bad about buying a few pairs of shoes. I also like the fact that this little boutique is right buy us also. It doesn't take much to find something cool and unique in a shop such as Bus Stop. I am glad you featured them this week because after looking at their website I am quite intrigued.
How neat..I don't visit that area often and really like what this store is about. I think these are really neat ideas for gifts. I am always the person who buys 'different' gifts for family and friends and think this would fit into the unusual category well. When I have some time after finals I would love to stop by and check them out!
I remember seeing boots at Steve Madden a couple of weeks ago that used the same 're-purposed' concept- they were vintage military boots with insets of vintage fabric. It's interesting that several companies are featuring this style right now. I certainly like the concept of using the Pakistani quilts better than Steve Madden's approach, but I can't help but think that the finished product looks so DIY that I would almost want to do just that...
I love the idea of reusing the Pakistani quilts. - I haven't heard of Bus Stop before, but I'll definitely check them out!
The fact that you can not only support the local economy, but go green as well is a wonderful shopping opportunity that should be taken advantage of. I took a peek at the website and the shoes are lovely and do not look like the would be your standard eco friendly product. This is definitely buzz worthy.
Being able to contribute to a global cause while shopping is one of the joys of companies going green! This sounds like a great store with a lot of interesting shoe options for the shoe fanatic. I will have to stop by and add to my collection.
