As reported by Eleftheria Parpis on October 22, 2009 in Brandweek, Levi's is teaming with Goodwill to encourage customers to donate their used denim to Goodwill. The slogan, '"A care tag for our planet," was conceived by BBDO West, San Francisco, and will include online and in-store communications.'
Denim has a long life. I am still wearing my hand me over Levis from my ex-husband from 1988. The bottom line - donate your clothes when you are done with them. Don't put them in a landfill.

Levi and GoodWill teaming up is a smart idea. Levi's are are well-known brand for being made to last a long time.
Donating your clothes to goodwill is a great alternative to throwing away your unwanted items. Also, during this recession it allows other people to buy quality, gently used pieces at a reduced price.
Over the summer I went through almost every article of clothing in my room. I donated more than half of what was in there to Planet Aid.org. A few things had to be thrown out, sadly, but there was no way they were actually salvageable.
The fact that Levi's is teaming up with Goodwill, though, makes me extremely happy. I'm glad to see such a well-known company working towards recycling. This will really help with getting society to reuse things rather than to keep buying new and throwing out all the old stuff.
Even before the "green movement" started, my mom had my siblings and I shopping at and bringing our old clothes to consignment shops and goodwill. Because I grew up doing this, I still utilize consignment shops today, and anything that is too old or out of style, goes to charity. I have accounts at two different consignment shops. They are a great way to give your stuff a second life as well as make a little money back from items you no longer want.
If blogger had a like button, I would click it three times in excitement about this teaming up between Levi and Goodwill. I completely agree with giving away your old clothes instead of throwing them into the trash. Ever since I can remember, I've always donated my old clothes and the shoes I didn't like anymore to Goodwill or RedCross sites. My family and my family friends also have this running collection of clothing that has been through all the children, it's funny seeing clothes that I wore eight years ago on one of my parents' friend's 10 year old daughter.
Levi and Goodwill team up deserve an A+ on their report card. This is one of the best ideas during the whole green movement. Giving away clothes to goodwill is beneficial to not only the planet but also to the less fortunate. When my sister can no longer fit in my hand me downs, I give them to the lupus foundation or the goodwill. There is no reason for clothes to go to waste and go into the landfills, when there are people who could use them. Since Levi's is such a well known brand and long lasting everyone is going to go to goodwill and save their money by buying Levi's from them.
I think that recycling your clothes is an awesome idea. I never toss out any of my old clothing that I dislike anymore, unless its heavily damaged. I always make sure to clean out my closet every 4 months and donate anything I do not want anymore to a local thrift shop.
It's great that such a well-known name like Levi's is making an effort to encourage everyone to donate and recycle their clothing, but I can't help but think that they could do more than to simply team up with Goodwill and to create a (rather silly) slogan. I would imagine that Levi's has the funding to put in a larger effort- whether that's to switch to more costly organic fibers or to simply cut back on their production waste in some way. Again, it's great that they're doing something, but if they want recognition for making a difference, then they're going to have to try a little harder.
yes! Definitely donate. Even if it's just to a younger neighbor or relative. I remember being so excited to receive a bag of "grown up" clothes from my older family friends. Anything I didn't take from the hand-me-downs I would then take to Goodwill. There are also services that will pick up donations from your house, so all you have to do is bag it and leave it by the door.
Goodwill is such a great place to donate clothing to and I think that by teaming up with Levi's, Goodwill will likely see their donations go up. I know I always donate my clothes to Goodwill when I am done with wearing them. Usually twice a summer I will do a massive cleaning of my closet and most of the clothes that come out go in to a Goodwill pile. Not only is it good for recycling, but its also a tax write- off, just in case one needed a financial incentive.
This is a great idea with a catchy slogan. I agree that jeans last forever. I still wear some jeans from high school. Usually when I am getting rid of clothes, I let my friends sort through and take what they want, and donate the remainder to Purple Heart. Throwing away clothing is such a waste.
