zoe&zac Debut at Payless

Payless has delivered on their promise for a green shoe collection at an affordable price. zoe&zac is in stores now. I visited my local Payless and had a look. Honestly, the styles are not me, but there are several styles available for women that might suit you. The collection also offers some jewelry and 2 bags.

The face of zoe&zac is Summer Rayne Oakes, no stranger to How Green is Your Closet? She is fresh, smart and personable, a Columbia educated environment scientist turned model who has created a career as a specialist in sustainable living. Her recent book on sustainable fashion and beauty - Style, Naturally:The Savy Shopping Guide to Sustainable Fashion and Beauty focuses on how to make informed choices in your fashion and beauty purchases. This book is readable and visually enticing, featuring many of Oakes's favorite designers and brands like Stella McCartney, Loomstate and Aveda.

zoe&zac was specifically created to offer a more sustainable alternative to the masses. Using such materials as organic cotton, hemp, jute and faux leather and suede manufactured with reduced heavy metalsk. The shoes offer details such as nickle-free hardware and tagua nuts which are also known as "vegetable ivory" from the tagua palm tree. Put together with water based, non-toxic glue on recycled rubber soles with elastic made from recycled plastic bottles, all styles are available for under $30/pair.

Payless followed through on packaging as well. Each pair is packaged in a box made from 100% recycled shoe boxes and printed with soy-based inks. And you can purchase a re-usable bag made of 50% recycled materials as well
.

In partnership with the Nature Conservancy, Payless will donate $1 for every pair of zoe&zac shoes and re-usable bags purchased to help plant more trees. Reduced footprint, responsible packaging, replenishment of trees all for under $30. An affordable sustainable choice for most of us. Thumbs Up Payless.

It is neat to see that even a company like Payless has gone as far as offering a green collection to their customers. My first thought was, "these must be way too expensive for Payless customers and will not be successful", but after looking at the collection and seeing they are all under $30, it might just be a success.
For those who want to be green but may hold back because of the cost to do so, zoe&zac will help out.
I agree with you that the collection is not my taste in any way, but may be for some Payless customers.
I am curious with what will happen to this line and if it will do well in Payless stores.

I am very shocked and impressed by Payless. The zoe&zac line of shoes at Payless could be a great success, as well as a great example to other discount stores to start making green initiatives. What I am most impressed with in this line is its packaging. Using 100% recycled shoe boxes and soy-based inks is incredibly impressive for Payless. If Payless can provide responsible packaging, there really doesn't seem to be any excuse for anyone else to not be doing the same. I would really like to know more about the production process of these shoes and where they are getting their materials to better understand how they are able to be a such a great price. It is definitely a thumbs up for Payless.

I would honestly never expect a company like Payless to create a green line. For how far they are going with this green initiative in the shoes and packaging, I would expect the shoes to cost a whole lot more. I can't believe that they are going as far as to have 100% recycled goods in the boxes and soy-based inks. I actually can't believe that more companies aren't doing this, especially if it isn't costing Payless that must because the shoes are still coming in under $30. An affordable way for consumers that may not have the money to help in the green efforts can easily go to Payless and take part in buying the zoe&zac line. I agree that these shoes are not necessarily my style, but I know a lot of people that would find these shoes cute and would definitely buy them because they are eco-friendly. I think Payless deserves a pat on the back and maybe some lower end companies will look into what Payless did and become more involved with going green without completely splurging on prices.

I would also like to give zoe&zac a pat on the back. 100% green materials for under $30 is impressive! Being at the end of our production process and having researched so many ways of souring green material it really comes together when seeing a mass market company like Payless create awareness to leave a smaller footprint on the environment.
