I just read an article about how the green movement is really developing its core in Portland, Oregon, so this post stuck out to me. I went to the Nau website and was kind of disappointed in what I saw. I guess from the initial description I was expecting more of a fashion forward collection of garments, and mostly every piece had a very safe silhouette that was only available in earth tones. While I think that this helps to establish the brand of the company as very focused on “green,” I would LOVE to see a company with the same green ideals and mission statement that is more fashion forward. I think a company like that would really get a lot of attention because most of the green companies I have seen all carry and produce very woodsy, earthy, hermit-man garments. For a company to produce fashion forward items would appeal to a wider variety of consumers and prove that green can be anywhere, not just in the Pacific Northwest with the hippie tree-huggers. (Not that there is anything wrong with being a hippie tree-hugger!) I wish all the best to Nau and hope to see more apparel companies like them in the future!
